Blue Orange Green Pink Purple

" By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest."

A time..

I've read loads about the festival of Thanksgiving. People, places and their customs never seem to lose their magic on me. But, this particular festival (like all others ;) ), I hold close to my heart.

Surprising to some and crazy to others, since I haven't really celeberated the festival. Pretty sad, huh? No turkeys.. no pumpkin pies..

I've read and read an enormous number of stories which revolve around this season. What I like best about it? The fact that the whole family gets together and that everyone sits at the dinner table together, holds hands and thanks the Lord.

Thanksgiving finds its origin in the harvest-home ceremonies held in England. Now, a version of it forms one of the most important festivals in America. These were days reserved to thank God for plentiful crops and a bountiful harvest.

Normally, I believe in sending up a prayer of thanks everyday. For people in my life, for those who've left and for those who will come. For every dream that has come true and every dream that hasn't come true. For everything and anything and nothing. But, in this world where flying cows and talking dogs aren't only fuzzy dreams of a student bored during a lecture, this festival of the celeberation of the joys of life, is in itself, a gift.

In an age where a family consists of a person and his car/dog/mansion... a day when he can get together with the living people of his clan to celeberate joy is, well in the new age language, AWESOMELY COOL!!

Lots and lots of people. The old and the new born... a fire crackling in the background.. loads of laughter and teasing... tasty food.. and then a prayer of thanks. Perfect, don't you think??

I don't know for sure if this is the way it works, even today... And if it does, well I'm one happy person, for you just made my most favorite fairy tale come true!! So, for all those visiting and all those who aren't visiting... for friends old and new.. for my family.. and for everyone in need of a smile... you are all special to me. Thank you for bearing with me!!

So, with loads of love and hugs and kisses here's wishing you all a very very Happy Thanksgiving. May God bless each of you and the people you love!!

    heya,
How come festivals are always related with some food or the other?
I so just tend to wonder.

Well, I don't see why it's so unique to you. For the Americans it's certainly a holiday, but in India, every state has its own harvest holiday, and the family's together for all these holidays, including others. Plus, I really have to ask... do turkeys enjoy thanksgiving?

That is my favorite part, too - that the whole family gets together!

the only reason people celebrate this stupid festival is to eat a turkey (ugh!) and watch a "football" game. Apart from that, it is an awfully boring festival.

@anand- happy turkey day to you too!!

@cattiva- thanks for coming by. Hope u had a lovely day. Your son, without doubt, did...

@nav- that's a pretty cynical veiw.. but i guess football games are a part of the charm too ;) thanks for stopping by.

it isn't a cynical view... this is based on an experience I had not 4 days ago... not one eatery/store is open, everyone is asleep and nothing is going on. To top it all, the main attractions of the day are turkey (which I don't eat, being a vegetarian) and "football" (sans use of actual feet), a sport that I still don't particularly enjoy.
