" By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest."

womanly manly or is it manly womanly?

"Emani Fair and Handsome"

ahem. ahem... And they say we females take ages to get dressed up and spend lifetimes in front of the mirror.

For, those of you lucky ones who don't know what this advertisement is about : The first scene shows a guy, kinda dark (the mud effect), entering into a girls Hostel to steal their "Fair and Lovely" creams, that apparently make your skin fair and lovely. He gets caught, and is advised by the "manly" guys, to use " Fair and Handsome"... On use of which, he turns fairer (they wash off the mud)... And he and the gals, who swarm him, live happily ever after.

Yuck.

I didn't know I'd ever live to see guys want to look fair, and go to the extent of applying cosmetics to achieve the desired effect.

I'm not sure if I totally disagree with the whole concept of beauty parlors for guys...A beauty parlor, contrary to common belief, is not a place where people who think they look bad come in to and leave looking like princesses. It is a place for "grooming". Which, male or female, I think can be done at home by the person itself. But the whole concept of guys worrying about an extra hair on his eyebrow, freaks me out to a lot of extent. In my defense, you male species are chauvinistic about a lot of stuff, this one's my call. :D

No, the reason for this post is not to advertise about this "cream"... I was just thinking how pathetic we've all become... We've stopped believing in the beauty that lies in a person's heart.. And measure up a person's beauty on the basis of his external facade. Which is what it is, a facade. Looks don't last... At least until we've perfected the anti-aging pills. It's what you do with your life, what you think and what you believe in, how you treat people... all the stuff that lies in that pulsating organ (the one that lies in your rib cage people!! Perverts, get lost..Or just do abhestho abhestho and carry on reading..)... That is the reason for your being ALIVE. You've seen the beauty parlor tricks fail with Kareena Kapoor.. the minute that mouth opens, all the "sexiness" (or whatever u guys think she possesses) disappears at twice the speed of light.

Grooming is a totally different aspect. How you carry yourself, says a lot about you. Things like cleanliness, neatness... play a major role. This constitutes grooming. Not, trying to make medusa look like Amisha Patel. Chi! What am I saying?? They already look alike... Let's see medusa look like Sushmita Sen, Shekhar Gupta grow a mane like Aishwarya Rai..You get my drift!

Anyway, back to the point. What was the point? Oh yeah!! For all you guys who are worried about not getting a girl because you have a slightly darker complexion, this one's for you. ( If I were you I'd worry about making my girl stick around once she found out I was using Fair and Handsome!!) This is from confirmed sources:

"Go buy your pack(s??) today. Limited Stock only"!!(and flush 'em)

:D

..Just remember "That which you are, and no one else is... is what makes you beautiful"...Until next time!!

    Preetika,
A quick question. They said "Practice before you preach". So in those lines, do you follow what you have put on your post? Because I have heard this from almost all the girls! "Beauty is only external", blah! blah! but these girls go to all extents to 'groom' themselves. And how many of you girls would be ready to boast of a boyfriend like Vadivelu who might have a heart of gold? So this talk about beauty being in heart is again height of hyprocrisy.
[Preetika, sorry if I sound harsh but no offences meant this - just pouring out what I have been feeling for long!]

I don't think you should conclude on the basis of that advertisement that (most) men are very beauty conscious. Also, (in the case of most of the people I know) external beauty is not the primary thing that men see among the members of the other (fairer) sex and I come to realise from your post that it's the same case with (most) women, too.

@Ravi: alot of people today do judge on the basis of looks. Personally, I do NOT. hence, i'm writing about it.

@ashwim, thanks for visiting. And who are you kidding about guys nt bothering abt the way a gal looks?? Hell! that's about the only thing that gets you guys "active"... :D

And im nt judging anyone. I'm jst making an observation. the fact that there is a demand for such things, is the reason for their being in the market.

I know alot of girls, who are so bothered about their nail breaking! For heavens sake! These people are all "empty" inside, and that makes them ugly acc to me.

and ninju, what about the guys who don't like "hairy girls".. and them getting a waxing done??

This is a two way street. ALl i wanted to say was tht stop being shallow. there's a lot more to a person than just the way he loooks!!

..and of course, i wanted to advertise about this wonderful creation.

    :D

    Preetika,
If you sincerely do not judge by looks then my salutations to you. Hats off!! Now I can truly appreciate your whole post! :-)

jeez dhruva!!! thats ALOT to say at one time.. ur sure the muskles of ur brain are nt hurting yet?

i really am not kidding ravi... dark, light, etc dnt matter to me. decency and what the person stands for is my criterion for liking/disliking them.

GREAT post...I LOVE it. And completely support less fuss over the outside...good living on the inside helps us physically and emotionally, which definitely brings out the beauty in all of us.

I gave up make-up years ago when I realized I'm allowed the same rules that guys have. General grooming and cleaning? Yes, I do that (just for the record).

I find this post extremely offensive. Why cannot boys be fair? already girls are fair because of fair and lovely. if boys are also fair then everyone can be fair and good-looking. but we guys cant use fair and lovely because that has special formula for only the gals. That is why these people, realizing the guys problems brought out fair and handsome, so that even guys can be handsome. thanks to it, my looks are getting better everyday. i am sure one day lots of girls will like me.

Dark guys are so, like, ewww! who would go out with a dark guy? I agree with preetika, she says dark guys look like they have mud on their faces. their so ugly!

The problem with these creams is that they dont really make you fair. the ones who are already truly fair are the beautiful ones. the dark ones have no hope. thse people are trying to use advertising to convince the ugly dark peopel taht they too can be fair and loveley/handsome.

generally fair people are better at everything. they are more smarter also. taht is why in the fair and loveley add only the fair girl gets a job

firstly i love ur post preetika! was surprised myself when i saw the ad...but then again it isn't a new phenomenon. guys gettin their bodies waxed and all..now thats the limit!
what ever happened to the macho image guys wanted to put up and all.if they think this is gonna do it..sadly they are mistaken!

personally i don't go by looks either.. if a guy happens to be good looking then added bonus!! how the hell does it matter!!?? even the fairer sex indulging themselves in the various products is highly unnecessary and artificial...sad sad sad sad..
