Baby factories where you can tell the robot/guy sitting at the window what color hair/skin/eyes/sex/blah blah you want your child to have and voila`!! Your baby pops out of a machine, with a tag that reads "Best before 60 years from date of manufacture". Do I want that? I ummm..think i'll stick to the stork delivering mine.
We were having a discussion on this whole cloning craze that's going on and what we think about it. I hadn't really thought about it.. but after spending some time thinking about a baby with desired characteristics, like they would say in sci-talk, popping out of a machine... there being more than one Me on this planet..I've decided I don't like the idea.
I mean other than the reason I gave my prof; Sir, if babies were to be produced in factories, then we'd be missing out on the fun part... there are many other reasons why I'd rather this genie stayed in its lamp and came out only once in a while, to save the world.
Genes are the instruction books to life. They hold information regarding how tall you are, what color your hair, eyes, skin, etc are and they can also tell you your expiry date. Mankind today, has learnt not only how to read this code but also how to modify and replace it. This is called genetic cloning.
While it grants some people an easier life and others a new life all together, it can have it has its bad side too.
Ok.. for a second.. just imagine.. you knew when you were going to die.. how much fun would life be for you? I mean, the whole charm of life becomes non-existant once you know that. Also, by modifying this age-gene/death-gene or whatever you want to call it, aren't we taking it onto ourselves to decide when who dies and when who doesn't?? And isn't that not our work? What I mean to say is that there is a God. A creator. A supreme being. By altering our own deaths and births aren't we defying nature? This supreme power?
Me thinks everything in the correct doses is right. That is, if we think we are mature enough to utilise this science for saving lifes, curing people, preventing them of pain, etc then we should go ahead. But if this is some sort of a power game at the end of which you see yourself standing on the globe and claiming yourself to be the greatest then we should STOP. 'cuz hey buddy! You aren't the greatest. I am.

???????????
I think the movie gattaca is particularly apt concerning your post... if you haven't allready I definately reccomend it.
?????????????..i STILL DONT GET IT..!!
I agree with you, Preetika, though I'd rather live a longer life than is possible. And one more thing...I've heard of all sorts of genes...something like 42000 of them are supposed to be there...One for each characteristic. But how can genes determine how you die?
Life as I now see is an Endless cycle of men, knowledge and problems.
I think I am going to do a post on that... soon, I hope.
