" By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest."

ma tujhe salaam

The other day I was flipping through channels, and came across a special story on NDTV. I know I know, the bloddy channel keeps making me write and you are forced to read ;) what say u ? sue them?!!

Anyway, the special was about celebrations world over to celebrate the 135th birth anniversary of the father of this nation. Mahatma Gandhi. The ol' man had his faults.. but his path of ahimsa,i.e., non-violence, still comands respect among people, around the world. Amongst the various peace marches by students, all over Gujarat, there was one school that did something special.

Each child was asked to write a letter to another child in Pakistan. These letters were to be carried across the border, by two Americans.... I don't know when the englishmen turned smart, but all I could think of was " Well I'll be damned! It's finally happening!!"

That was when the reality of these peace talks between the PM's of both the nations, actually sank in. Something was finally happening. It's high time that we stopped JUST talking and DID something! It's high (another high) time these religion fanatics and leaders stopped making this "war" a publicity stunt. It's high ( another another high) time we stopped fighting over which side of the line is yours and which side is mine. It's high ( this time, I'm on top of Mt. Everest) we stopped finding ourselves...
"... at the head of lines we should not lead
or behind lines we never should have crossed."

Land is land. It's as much yours as it is mine.There's no "this rightfully belongs to me".... what our leaders did THEN, they did. Why fight over it now? Borders, are just lines, that are drawn on a map, so that there's more to doodle in geography class...

When children, at the age of 12, realise that there is no difference between another child of the same age, 'just because he/she lives in a different country... why can't the people who run these coutries realise the same? Why do people 4 times this age, go around bombing cities in the name of religion? How does it make a difference if I say "mubarak ho" or "congratulations" or "badhaiyan"??? They all mean the same thing. If I want to call God, Christ, I will. If another wants to call him Allah or Ram or whoever, he will.... how does that make him a lesser man???

.....questions. Questions. Questions. The only answer to them lies within ourselves. Greed. Power. Pah!! The idiots!!! We should stop trying to put ourselves above others and others below us. There ARE no higher men and there exit no lower men... there ARE smarter men and foolish men. To date, the foolish have caused death while the so called smart have played .... Finally!! The smart are acting smart and doing something...the smaller they are the smarter they are acting!

:D

Rudy is Goody

If

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;
If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools;
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And to hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!

This is by Rudyard Kipling and one of my most favorite pieces of poetry. I can read it a million times and not once get bored.... each line holds so much meaning and makes so much sense, even to a commoner like me..Read it carefully... its beautiful....I hope u liked reading it.....!!!!

love just hurts

help me here people...

(umm... the first line is a question... the second is a thought or a situation... there's Nick-my best friend, one Tina-his love who hates for some reason and me-Me is ME...!!!)

What do you do with a best friend(Nick) who has been in love with a person(Tina) for 4 years, other than to tell him to go for it?

So, what if she's the reason why you distrusted me(me!!) once?

What do you do when Tina says she can't go out with Nick because she cannot trust Nick and me together, other than tell Nick you'll get out of the way?

Damn! Nick deserves a chance with Tina doesn't he? Friends come and go... yeah girls come and go too, but what kind of a person would I be if because of me he lost a chance with a girl who he's loved for 4 years and more just because of me?

What do you do when Tina makes your best friend,Nick, wag his tail to her every command, other than to tell him to open his eyes?

Nick knows what Tina's doing... Tina just wants to increase the count of guys that pay attention to her. Nick knows it.

What do you do when Nick takes out all his anger with Tina on you and calls you the lowest of things, and says "Who are you to say anything,huh?... look who you fell in love with... see how happy he is with his new girl friend "...other than listen?

Nick knows he's just saying things and that they don't mean a thing. Nick knows he's being played at by Tina.

What do you say to Nick when he decides to STOP feeling for Tina, no matter what... other than, "Look mister, you can't decide what to feel and when to feel and who to feel it for... So, stop fooling yourself and just go with the flow."

Nick's tried a million times to make himself not to feel, but he won't admit that it doesn't work.

What do you do when Nick starts thinking that no one takes him seriously and that no one respects him (taking hints from the way Tina's been treating him)other than, kick him on his shins and tell him that a person has to respect himself before he/she can expect others to respect him back... that if you think no one's listening to you, make an effort to listen to them and then try making them see what you have to say...

Nick fights with his dad at home over petty things and then justifies them with " He doesn't respect me. I will no be treated like shit." And he shuts up when I tell him that the only person who treats him like shit is TINA.

What do you do when Nick decides "Enough is enough. I'm not going to care. I don't believe in love anymore. It jst doesn't exit. Im going to change myself."

...other than tell him... "Look idiot. Just because SHE (Tina) doesn't care for you or doesn't love you back, doesn't mean no one else does. It doesn't mean you change into a cold hearted dog."

Nick only nods his head. He's made up his mind. No one's going to play around with him. He doesn't care about anyone anymmore. Love is crap. It doesn't exist.

What do you do when he sends you a msg that reads " Thank you for trying to stop me. I dint knw you cared this much. But you are just one person, you're not the world."

He doesn't want to do it... but he will because he thinks he's not good enough.

What do you do when Nick says "Stop messaging me. You are worse than HER. I don't need you anymore. Msg me only when you've stopped cribbing." or "Aha! So you are using whatever i've said to you to attract other people's attention, glad to be of service. Btw no one will listen to you because they don't give a damn about what you have to say."

I dint know what to say... so, I just told him.... that try as he may, I am not TINA, and don't ever want to be. "I am me. You don't need me, fine. SAY whatever you want to to hurt me. Do whatever you want. And when you get tired....I'm still going to be here..."

..going 45!!

Life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes.

I'm glad God hasn't given me everything I've ask for.

I'm convinced that whatever happens, happens for a reason; sometimes a bad reason and sometimes a good reason.

The only measure of what's right and wrong is that, if you hide and do something, it's wrong.

It's the small daily happenings that make life so spectacular and beautiful.

Under everyone's hard shell is someone who wants to be appreciated and loved.

The Lord didn't do it all in one day. What makes me think I can?

Ignoring the facts does not change them.

When you plan to get even with someone, you are only letting that person continue to hurt you.

People who bow down to circumstance, are the ones who fail.

It's OK to fuck up.

Love, not time, heals all wounds.

The easiest way for me to grow as a person is to surround myself with people smarter than I am.

Even when you have to stoop down and start over with your life, it's worth it.

Everyone you meet deserves to be greeted with a smile.

There's nothing sweeter than sleeping with babies and feeling their breath on your cheeks.

No one is perfect until you fall in love with them.

I've learned....That life is tough, but I'm tougher.

Opportunities are never lost; someone will take the ones you miss.

When you harbor bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.

One should keep his words both soft and tender, because tomorrow he may have to eat them.

What people want from you, most of the time,is for you to hear them; not listen to them.

If you don't think you are insane, then you are not human.

A smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks.

I can't choose how I feel, but I can choose what I do about it.

Everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness, and growth happen while you're climbing it.

.... The less time I have to work, the more things I get done.

Every person wants be a writer.

... loving is a mistake, but one that we should all make.

Life is a rope full of knots... all you have to do, to find your way, is to keep untying 'em.

White hair and age have as little correlation with each other as white hair has with wisdom.

I've learned...that love and friendship aren't about taking, but giving without expecting.

When you think things can't get any worse, they do.

It's tougher to do the right thing because that way the only person who gets hurt is you.

Every person has a reason for whatever he does... Sometimes it's reason enough, sometimes it's not.

It's easier to forgive than to forget.

When silences between two people become uncomfortable, there's something wrong.

When you try too hard to impress, to think or to feel something about someone, the person is wrong for you.

I've learned... That when you try too hard to forget, you only end up remembering more.

And I KNOW... that's enough for the day... :D.... i just felt philosophical and suddenly 45 years old..!!!

have a super day!

intelligent man

An exerpt from a speech by Thomas Friedman of The New York Times....

"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India who would make you starve, if you don't.'"

Sambhar of 69

I had my first real six rupees,
stole it from my father's pants.
went to a madrasi hotel,
to eat the sambhar of 69.

Me and some kadke dost,
had it all and we caught bukhaar,
jimy puked, joey got ulcers,
and Bagga ne maari dakar.
Oh when I went back there now,
the food was as stale as ever,
and though it was 1999,
still the sambhar was being served over there,

that was the worst food of my life.

Therez no use in complaining,
when you got no other place to eat,
rushed in the evening to the doctors clinic,
but he too was at the toilet seat, yeah
standing there waiting outside,
nurse told me I will wait forever,
oh and when I held my breath,
I knew that I had to use that loo there
That was the worst food of my life.

Back to the sambhar of 69.

Man I was getting killed,
I was full and restless,
I needed to unwind,
I guess nothing can wait forever - FOREVER... NO

And now the dhabas are changing,
new dishes have come and gone,
sometimes when I pass that old madrasi lane,
I still smell it, I can't be wrong.

Standing in those unwashed clothes,
the waiters still call me in there,
oh the way my nostrils burn,
I know that it will be served forever,
what was the worst food of my life.

yeah it was the sambhar of 69,

the sambhar, the sambhar, the sambhar of 69?
.....hope ya guys had fun!!!

thinking...thought...how,what.

...I've been thinking for a while... the suicide rate, the "parent-pressure" and the following of "standard stuff" without finding the courage to think out of the block.

"Why?" I asked myself.

Firstly, there's a need to accept that white hair has as little to do with age, as wisdom has to do with the years you've lived.

Secondly, he have to stop telling ourselves, as teenagers, that while times are changing, WE are changing but are parents are not changing. This is a misconception, to a large extent. They are evolving too.... not at the same rate as we are, but they are. It's tougher on them because, change to them means giving up what they've been made to believe since they were born. It's not easy for anyone to accept that they're wrong. Especially when they're being told as much, by a someone who is about a two decades or so younger than them.

Thirdly, there's a need for parents to understand that there's a difference between teaching a child HOW TO THINK and WHAT TO THINK. When you are telling me what to think, you are leaving no scope for me to experience and explore. When you're telling me how to think.., you're just laying down the facts, and leaving the decision to me. IF I make the wrong choice, you should be there to help me face it. But, when you're telling me what to do, there is no chance of me making a mistake, or learning how to face the consequences of my decisions.

Parents, elders as a whole... Justify these actions of theirs with a "I've seen more of the world than you. I know better." If you're telling me WHAT TO DO, how can I see the world? How can I EXPERIENCE?

I'm not saying that at 17 I'm capable of always making the right choices... I'm saying that at 40, YOU ARE NOT CAPABLE OF ALWAYS MAKING THE RIGHT CHOICES...

Lay down the facts. Tell me what your opinion is. Tell me how and what you've seen happen in a situation as this. And then let me decide how and what I want to do.

How, when whatever I've done is what you've TOLD me to do, do you expect me to face this world? There are decisions to be made at every step in life. Tomorrow, when I have to make a decision, I'm not going to have you to fall back on. I have to make it. For which I need courage to believe that... 'Hey! This is what I think should be done. If I'm wrong, we'll change tracks.... If I'm right, then well done to me.'

I can't be worried that I MAY BE WRONG and then the world MAY end.
